Mancub

Sarah Carter rocks the Five Points with her autoharp and cymbal kickstand. She truly has a beautiful voice!

Today we went to the Five Points Farmer's Market (a few blocks away) for the Mancub Benefit. These young talented musicians died tragically in a car accident.

Little D donated his dollar to buy a Mancub button and wore it with pride. So sweet!

Thrift Store Score

I'm convinced that our little town has some of the BEST thrift stores in the world. This is the latest score that I picked up at Habitat. Actually, little C found it and I found her.......
scooting all around the store on it. It's a circa 70's wooden giraffe scooter from Playskool.

Intricate Stones

This morning, I stumbled on these lovely stones by Resurrection Fern whose little story posts and creations for bugs reminds me so much of my inner childhood.

Jah Bull

I am remembering Jah Bull (Woolton Henry Harrison) who passed away on this day, May 8, 2005. Not only was he a dear friend but also a wonderful poet and musician who never really got the respect that he deserves. He had a super sense of humor and I'll always remember how he loved to eat Oh Henry! candy bars, "because that's my name," he'd say) So, Jah Bull, this ones for you.
I found an excellent interview with him about his life here. AND I found an old 1978 reggae recording with Hugh Mundell 1962-83 & Augustus Pablo 1954-99 (both a tragic loss, R.I.P.) entitled: Blackman's Foundation. If you listen, exactly halfway through the song, Jah Bull does a dub: "Push Dawta Push, Come Make the Baby Born." This is a favorite of mine.......and......I will be doing just that in a few months!
Now, off to the corner store to get myself an Oh Henry!

Mmmmm The Chocolate Cake of the South

Today's my birthday and my cake is a Red Velvet cake. Steve and the kids made it special, just for me. Growing up on the west coast, I had never even seen or heard of these until I moved to Virginia. This is something that I will always love and be able to make/take..........even when I move back to California.
