Equestrian

This is horse season. D and C are experienced riders! I just discovered Kinsellaart's wonderful dancing horses on etsy.

70's Florals

Today's doodling of a horsehead and flowers somehow came out of Oktak's lovely and inspiring coin purse and its cool colors/floral pattern. Can you see the resemblances? My sister and I shared a room when we were growing up and the 70's lampshade had a very similar floral pattern and colors without the greens.

The Bots

With three little ones, I don't get out much so I rely on the computer and my husband Steve (who does sound at a few clubs in Hollywood). When he comes home, I always ask if there were any good ones and a few nights back he told me about these kids who Rocked:The Bots are two brothers, Mikaiah Lei, 16, and Anaiah Lei, 12, sons of a Chinese father and an Afro-Caribbean mother. They sound like a mix of Power Pop, Ska, Punk and Reggae. Here's a clip I found of them:Hot Stuff!

Here's my doodle for today. I used a black marker, newsprint( LA Weekly), gluestick and watercolor. I think this might be nice as a woodcut but this is what I have to work with for now, new baby= sans the chemicals.

Arts and Crafts Inspiration

Some mornings I wake up extra early to get in a few minutes of peace and time to browse the computer (something I don't get to do very often these days!) I like to search different visuals. I punched in the search term arts embroidery on ebay and this is what I found. Some great pieces full of inspiration. Enjoy!

Home Sweet Home

We've started to fill up the new apartment with some furnishings and it's finally starting to feel like home :)

Speaking of home, Spreadthelove's print is on my favorites list. I'd love to hang it on our entrance wall. The colors and text are just perfect.

Old School

I picked up a copy of BUST at a news stand for the Vivian Girls fashion pages, Ellen Page and Alia's Whip It interview and Exene...etc, and I saw a small article on Kitty, Daisy and Lewis. Three teenage sibs who joined powers with their rockin' mom and dad to create their self-titled debut which features awesome old instuments (a squeeze box and a wheeze box) along with bongos, steel guitar, upright bass,ukelele, harmonica, handclaps...etc. They cover some old blues from the 50's and original rock n roll, Jerry Lee Lewis style. The original tracks are GREAT and the album was recorded at home in the front room on old reel to REAL equipment (No digital stuff). They use a sweet little xylophone on (Baby)Hold Me Tight. I am in love :) and would love to see them live.

Kreativ Blog Award!

It's s nice to know that somebody out there reads my posts and to be given a Kreativ Blogger Award is even better!(Thank you El Ponk:) List 7 facts about me? Okay, here goes:
1. I just discovered and LOVE Blood Orange Gelato. There's a place a few blocks away from me called sweet harts and they have the BEST!
2. I love and support all-girl Rock bands. LA has the most and some of the finest. Lots of competition breeds the Best. I grew up with the Go Go's and the Bangles.
3. My favorite 45 record is The Brothers Johnson/ I'll be good to you.
4. I am inspired by all spiky things in nature: bumblebees, hedgehogs, cactus, pinecones, prickly pear, roses, pineapples......
5. I am the youngest of 3 and my older sister Nancy is my best friend. We can talk about every and Anything! We have a childrens picture book publishing company together called Bees Knees Books and our new book for fall, A Wonderful Week has just been released. Being the third has made me want to have 3, yes! I have three kids :0 I love babies and kids and big families.
6. My all time favorite band is The Devil Dogs. I loved them before I met my husband, Crazy Stevie (my other best friend) and I love them now. I hope that someday they will do a reunion tour......
7. I am secretly hoping to get a stand-up bass for Christmas. Anyone looking to start an all girl rock n roll band? I just discovered Kitty, Daisy and Lewis.....inspiring kids

8. * BONUS* I am ultra visual and am especially drawn to graphic print art, black and white or bold and bright.

The Sweetest Swedish Shoes

I don't usually post fashion, but I am loving these supersweet orange peep-toe clogs by Swedish Hasbeens. I'm really into orange lately. Maybe it's because it's pumpkin season :) They also make some cute green ankle boots.......
