Happy New Year!

2009 is almost over! I wanted to thank everyone who has been following my blog and sharing comments (which are always nice to get) too. It's been such an exciting year with lots of new things happening for me- A new baby boy!, Moving 4 times! and Leaving Virginia to move back to Los Angeles(like coming full-circle), A new book published with my sister for BeesKneesBooks, Nancy's new book shop, little D's starting a public elementary school and his 2 front teeth falling out in a slice of pizza, Little C's mastered the potty and is oh so independent and... I've been able find some time to do a bit of art and blog through it all.....yeesh! Thank you 2009!
I'm hoping 2010 has a lot in store for me and for us all. Lots of resolutions.....more art (the ideas are brewing) and redo the shop with some new surprises, a new book....
All those resolutions and more, let's make it happen!

Pretty Colors

Another rainy day. Had to entertain the kids and making cookies was the hightlight. They came out with really pretty colors and marbled too.

Birds Nest in Mustache

My latest illustration of birds nesting in a curled ended mustache. Our 6 year old's Rockstar music teacher has an amazing mustache, (almost like this one, a bit exaggerated) and that was the inspiration. We gave him a mustache print as a gift for the holidays.

Today's Trees

I took these photos at the tree lot on the corner. They're offering some sic colors this year. The mossy greenish-yellow flocked 10 footer sold out right away. It was gorgeous yet a little bit ill looking. There must be something in the water in Los Angeles.....

Strawberry Blonde Snowflakes

I have been busy working on so many different projects and this is one of them that I'm super excited to share:
7.5 ft of snowflakes....48 snowflakes that I've handcut and collaged (no two are alike).
Yay! They're in the shop now!

Who Knew?

When i moved cross country, who knew that I'd end up right down the street from one of the largest Handmade Galleries ever?! Yup, right here on lovely Ventura blvd. in sunny California is 5000 sq. ft. of handcrafting artists space. Makes gift giving so much fun :)
My sister came down for a visit and we bought the cutest little fisherman caps. i love love love this place.

Dresden Flowers

Aren't these lovely! Vintage dresden quilt block florals. I found them on ebay. The fabric is from the 40's.
I think they will look wonderful on a pink and white stripey pillow on my rocker.

Five Minutes of Peace...PLEASE!!!!

It's Not here at the uber early morning, rainy-day, crafter's table,
And while I do love holding S, I've been up alllllll night with him and need a little arm and mind freedom so it's not here........
Aye Aye Aye Look at this mess!
So.........................
It's here for a temporary cozy, mind-numbing space.....
And this corner! for an energetic rocking with my sweet little strawberry-blonde amp(: makes me happy). Unfortunately, we live in a tiny, 2-bedroom apartment (just moved 3 months ago) so there is no loud rocking allowed.
Visit Pip at Meet Me at Mike's and see who is playing at My Place and Yours. Pilgirm has chosen the brilliant theme: Just Five Minutes Peace.
Oh, just five minutes more please!

Baby Elephant

When C was born, my sister sent me a vintage "Sew and Stuff" that had already been embroidered but just needed to sewn and stuffed. Now S has arrived and is 4 months already and I've finally completed the project for little C. Isn't it sweet?!

After the Rain

It rained all night, it rained all day and then....the sun came out and I took this lovely pic from our living room window. It was so bright, you could actually see a double rainbow. It's been a long time since I've seen a rainbow and this one was the first one my kids ever saw which makes it even more special. It was so beautiful!

Yarrow Ball

I want to decorate our tree with these: yarrow, moss and tallow balls from We Are Land Rich. I especially love the yarrow on top. It reminds me of beautiful Mt. Shasta in Northern California, where the stuff grows wild. I went to college up there in the Siskiyous one year to study printmaking and can remember getting snowed in that winter. I was living in a trailer with my friend Ama and her three kids, Shaman, Bohdi and Dulce. We made yarrow tea and ate buckwheat pancakes.
One of my favorite new artists, Colette from rawartletterpress hails from the small Mt. Shasta town. Visit her shop and say hello. She lives in an awesome dome home and she's super nice!

Have a great Friday!

BFF

This is my Best Friend Forever (top). We met in middle school when we were just 13. We grew up through our crazy teenage high school years and into our wild college twenties and now in our thirties we are reunited and cheering with beer bottles......and sippy cups! Reunited after soooooo many years apart.
