day 1: our first stop = elmer long's bottletree ranch in ore grande...... a fantastical place! and well worth the short drive from l.a. for day trippers
at high noon we stopped for lunch at wagon wheel in needles, ca ... yes! it was hot cha cha!!!
then to seligman, arizona
for root beer floats at delgadillo's snow cap
and coffee at seligman sundries
i must've taken a zillion pics from the car window on rt. 66 and this is one of my farorites
joseph city ,az = jack rabbit trading post
we stopped for the night in hollbrook, arizona with enormous dinosaurs roaming the town
and tons of rock shops
pizza and wine for dinner at the mesa lounge and the kids played songs on the juke box
day 2: hiking the blue mesa trail in the painted desert, az
look closely and you'll see indian petroglyphs!
we visited the rainbow forest museum where the kids became junior rangers
and took another hike through a field of colorful petrified rainbow rocks
day 3 and 4: were spent in santa fe, new mexico with cousins. we stayed in an adobe built by my art teacher from uc santa cruz! jerry west built several adobes with help from other artists

horses and many more origami sculptures by artist kevin box
we spent hours
and hours ....looking
at the santa fe international folk art museum
day 5 : hiking in monument valley
on navajo indian territory = bright blue skies, all thumbs up
a magical, spiritual experience.. and maybe next time i'll take the moonlight tour
in the evening we visited john wayne's cabin and watched stagecoach!
day 6 and 7 : the mystical grand canyon
and shared the trails with these guys
heading out of the canyon we stopped in bedrock at the flinstones campground for route 66 mood rings + other cool souvenirs
now we're back home.....with heads full of dreams
